Dr. Zhang Long's research fields include qualitative and quantitative comprehensive research methods, strategic human resources, organizational behavior, business ethics, leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship, etc. He has published more than ten academic papers (including 11 SSCI papers) in SSCI and CSSCI high-level journals at home and abroad, such as Journal of Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Management Reviews, etc. He has also made keynote reports or published more than ten papers at high-level academic conferences at home and abroad and presided over the youth project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the youth project of the natural science foundation of Hunan Province, and the special fund project of basic scientific research business expenses of central universities. He is the deputy editor in chief of Chinese Management Studies (SSCI) and Editor in chief of China Human Resources Development (CSSCI expansion) special issue. He is National ctti think tank expert, National Natural Science Foundation committee system evaluation expert, Xiamen Silk Road National Strategic Research Center distinguished senior researcher and peer review of international high-level academic (SSCI) journals and conferences such as strategic entrepreneurship Journal (FT 50), Journal of business ethics (FT 50), human resource management journal, business ethics: a European review, International Journal of human resource management. He is a senior consultant of many state-owned enterprises such as Chenzhou Tobacco Reroasting Factory, Hunan Jiarun Duohao Household Appliance Supermarket Co., LTD., and a business mentor of Guangdong Jinying Agricultural Science and Technology Incubation Co., LTD.  He is also a member of American Academy of Management (AOM) and International Association of Chinese Management Studies (IACMR).  

 

Abstract

 

Qualitative research method has attracted more and more management scholars' attention in recent years because of its obvious advantages in exploring the psychological state, behavior, process and meaning construction of the researcher in the natural state. On that basis of summarizing and integrate the previous research viewpoints and taking "3W+1H" as the research framework, this paper defines qualitative research (i.e. What or what), Why qualitative research methods should be applied in management research (i.e. why or why), When management scholars need to use qualitative research methods (i.e. when or when), and How to use qualitative research methods in management research (i.e. In order to provide reference for local management research to better understand the research paradigm, characteristics, advantages, applicable situations and common methods of qualitative methods, and promote the development of qualitative research in local management research.
