BNUBS Held the Opening Ceremony of Class 2024 Freshmen and the “First Lesson” of Admission Education

On the afternoon of September 4, 2024, the opening ceremony of 2024 undergraduate, academic master, doctoral and international students of BNUBS was held in the Academic Lecture Hall on the third floor of the Library. All Party and government team members of the School, department heads, freshman class teachers, teacher representatives, heads of relevant functional departments and 2024 freshmen attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Han Lili, Associate Secretary of the Party Committee of the School.

Dean Qi Yudong delivered a speech

Qi Yudong, Dean of BNUBS, expressed his sincere congratulations and warm welcome to the freshmen on behalf of all the teachers and students of the School. President Qi quoted Karl Marx's famous words to encourage students to work for the happiness of their contemporaries and to pursue noble career choices. Quoting the classic sentences in the Analects of Confucius and the The Book of Rites, he stressed the eight steps of life progress, namely, “Exploring Things, Acquiring Knowledge, Sincerity, Righteousness, Self Cultivation, Family Harmony, Governance, Peaceful World”, and pointed out that the goal of academic planning and career planning is to promote professional development and shape mental models. The way to achieve this goal depends on the organic combination of the principle of “knowing and staying calm and thinking about” and “three classes”. Finally, he encouraged students to aspire to become future economists, management scientists, uphold the school motto of “Learn, so as to instruct others; Act, to serve as example to all”,and “Promoting business and culture to serve the nation and the world by creating knowledge and developing talents” in the future,as well as strive to grow into the pillars of the country.

Professor Gong Shiyang from the Department of Digital Economy and Management spoke as a faculty representative. With the theme of “Growing in exploration”, he encouraged new students to jump out of their comfort zone and continue to “explore knowledge”, “explore the world” and “explore themselves”. New students should not be confined to grades, should enjoy the fun of learning;They should dare to walk out of the campus and experience the colorful world; Look deep inside and find personal direction so they can bravely explore different possibilities and grow into a better version of themselves.

Zhang Buxin, a finance major undergraduate in 2021, delivered a speech as a representative of undergraduate students. She shared the two years she spent in BNUBS, and encouraged the new students to study hard, learn and think carefully, and carefully study their majors, and have the courage to assume social responsibility. She also stressed the importance of an international perspective, encouraged everyone to participate in international exchanges and show the style of Chinese youth, and used her internship and volunteer service experience as an example to inspire new students to cherish their university time, bravely pursue their dreams, and constantly go beyond themselves to become better themselves.

Xie Jiaqi, a master's student of Labor Economics in the class of 2022, delivered a speech around the word "choice" as a representative of graduate students. He encouraged new students to avoid blindly inrolling or lying flat in college life and suggested that they should clarify their own needs and stick to core goals. At the same time, he advocated that students combine their personal pursuit with the development of the country and the nation, take into account the " personal needs" and "national needs", and realize the unity of self-value and social value.

Zheng Zixuan, majoring in International Economics and Trade in the class of 2024, delivered a speech as the representative of the new undergraduate students, expressing her admiration for Beijing Normal University and its predecessors and her longing for college life, and encouraging herself to continue to inherit the mission and responsibility of the economic management of Beijing Normal University as a new student. Wu Tong, a 2024 graduate's student in Accounting, spoke as a representative of new graduate students. She called on the students to actively climb the peak of knowledge and expand the width of life, and at the same time to give back to the society with gratitude. Sun Zhijun, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Shool, taught the freshmen the “first lesson” - the History and Situation Introduction of the School. Mr. Sun first led everyone to look back at the glorious footprints of the School over the past 40 years, pointing out that the reform and development of the School's institutions and disciplines are deeply embedded in the broad background of China's economic and social system reform. Then, Mr. Sun introduced in detail the various levels and types of talent training system built by the School, the high-level, international and diversified faculty team and the high-level scientific research achievements of the School. He also emphasized that the School is committed to cultivating talents with profound humanistic and scientific literacy, broad international vision, strong sense of social responsibility and “four qualities” through the dimensions of value shaping, knowledge imparting and ability cultivation, and introduced various practical measures corresponding to the concept from the aspects of employment direction and international exchange in detail.
