CHIP2023 Research Seminar was Successfully Held at Beijing Normal University

From July 12 to 13, 2025, the seminar on the China Household Income Project (CHIP) 2023 was held at Beijing Normal University. Hosted by BNUBS, this seminar conducted in-depth discussions on the latest data achievements and cutting-edge issues of CHIP2023.

Distinguished experts and scholars attended the meeting, including Li Shi, Senior Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at Zhejiang University; Lai Desheng, Professor of the Central Party School (National Academy of Governance); Zhang Xun, Professor and Vice Dean of the Research Institute and Director of the Social Sciences Division of Beijing Normal University; Yue Ximing, Professor of Renmin University of China; Luo Chuliang, Professor and Dean of the School of Labor Economics at Capital University of Economics and Business; Wang Xiaobing, Professor of the University of Manchester; Lina Song, Professor of the University of Nottingham; Ma Xinxin, Professor of Hosei University in Japan; Hisatoshi Hoken, Professor of Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan; Margit Molnar, Director of the China Economic Policy Research Office of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD); and Xing Chunbing, Professor of Renmin University of China. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Sun Zhijun, Secretary of the Party Committee of BNUBS.

In their opening speeches, Professor Zhang Xun, Professor Lai Desheng, and Professor Li Shi reviewed the academic accumulation of the CHIP project over more than 30 years, highlighted the milestone significance of the CHIP2023 data in terms of data accuracy and indicator dimensions, expressed sincere gratitude to the research institutions, experts, scholars, and research team members who have provided valuable support to CHIPs, and put forward prospects for the in-depth application and research prospects of CHIP data.

During the meeting, experts and scholars from domestic institutions such as Beijing Normal University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Zhejiang University, Beihang University, University of International Business and Economics, Capital University of Economics and Business, Minzu University of China, Beijing Information Science and Technology University, Southwest University of Finance and Economics, Nanjing University of Finance and Economics, and Chengdu Municipal Party School; foreign universities including the University of Manchester in the UK, the University of Nottingham in the UK, and Hosei University in Japan; as well as organizations such as the China Development Research Foundation and OECD, delivered academic reports on topics such as income distribution, educational economy, agriculture and rural areas, artificial intelligence, labor market, common prosperity, and family behavior. The on-site comments and discussions were lively.

In the closing session, Professor Li Shi and Professor Yue Ximing summarized the meeting, fully affirming the academic value and practical significance of the research presented. They also hoped that participants would produce high-level original results based on CHIPs data, providing solid academic support for optimizing the income distribution system and promoting common prosperity.
