The scene

Professor Huang Shaoan gave a speech entitled "How to Rationally Understand the Total population and Structural Changes in China".First of all, Professor Huang compared the situation of China, Japan, India and other countries from the aspects of per capita resource occupation, population density, cultivated land area, multiple cropping index and so on. He pointed out that although China has a large land and abundant resources, its per capita resource occupation is low, its per capita cultivated land area is small, and its multiple cropping index is low. There is a prominent contradiction between the total population and the total resources in China.Professor Huang said that after calculation, the optimal population corresponding to the optimal carrying capacity of China's resources is about 800 millionwhen taking into account technological progress.Secondly, Professor Huang believed that the current demographic change in China, which is mainly characterized by the large number and proportion of the elderly population and the decline in fertility rate, should not be summarized by "population aging", but should be an "aging tide", which is closely related to the "baby boom" in China from the 1950s to the early 1970s.From the current economic development of our country, Professor Huang believed that our country should no longer be attached to the demographic dividend, nor should we pursue the labor dividend, but we should be committed to making more use of human capital dividends, that is, increasing investment in education and science and technology, and vigorously training high-quality talents. Finally, Professor Huang stressed that China's total population and population structure change are related to almost every Chinese, related to all aspects of our daily economic life, therefore, the majority of young scholars and students should dialectically and historically understand China's total population and population structure issues, and correctly apply them in theoretical research.

In the exchange session, the participants actively asked questions, and Professor Huang Shaoan patiently answered the questions raised. Everyone highly appreciated and thanked Professor Huang Shaoan for his wonderful sharing.

Professor Huang Shaoan had a live interaction with teachers and students

Professor Wei Hao summarized and commented on Professor Huang Shaoan's wonderful lecture. Professor Huang Shaoan explained the population policies and population changes in different periods of the country since the reform and opening up in a simple way, and analyzed the reasons for the changes in the size of China's population with detailed data and cases, providing students with an enlightening perspective to deeply understand some important issues in the development of national population. This lecture has broadened the participants' research horizons, deepened their new understanding of the current changes in China's population size and structure, and greatly helped to improve the participants' scientific research and academic ability.
