Lecture on "Promoting Innovative Development of Platform Economy: Correctly Understanding the Dialectical Relationship among Monopoly, Competition, and Innovation in Platform Economy" was Successfully Held

On the evening of May 10, 2025, the 44th lecture of the "Grand Digital Economy and Management Forum" at BNUBS, titled Promoting Innovative Development of Platform Economy: Correctly Understanding the Dialectical Relationship among Monopoly, Competition, and Innovation in Platform Economy, was held in the lecture theater of the Electronic Building. The lecture specially invited Professor Li Tao, Dean of the Internet Development Research Institute of Beijing Normal University, as the keynote speaker. Zhou Jianghua, Director of the MBA Education Center, presided over the lecture, and more than 110 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students from the School attended.

Professor Li first explored the power shift and economic-social transformation in the digital era. From the agricultural age and industrial age to the digital age, production factors, social organizations, and national forms have all evolved. He mentioned that the hardware "Moore's Law" is transitioning to a data "Moore's Law"—as the total volume of data continues to grow, its combination with other production factors like capital can unleash greater value. He pointed out that platforms have become a new industrial organization model in the digital era, and platform empowerment has accelerated enterprise growth. However, while platform economy brings enormous momentum and benefits to economic and social development, it also poses new challenges for regulation and governance. Enabled by digital technologies such as intelligent algorithms, monopolistic behaviors in platforms can be achieved and consolidated more rapidly than ever, with significantly amplified risks and harms. He stated that monopoly in platform economy is a form of "competitive monopoly" characterized by high monopolisticity, high competitiveness, and high innovativeness. He proposed adhering to governance principles of multi-stakeholder collaboration, inclusive innovation, and prudential regulation when addressing monopoly and competition issues in platform economy. After the lecture, Professor Li actively interacted with students, answering their questions.
