The 153rd Session of BNUBS Expert Forum was Successfully Held

At 15:00 on May 28, 2025, the 153rd session of the "BNUBS Expert Forum" and the 2nd lecture of the "Economic History Forum" were grandly held in Room 9406 of Jingshi Building, hosted by BNUBS. The lecture specially invited Professor Wei Mingkong, a second-level researcher from the Institute of Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and President of the China Economic History Society, as the keynote speaker. Hosted by Teacher Chen Yueyuan from the School, it attracted numerous faculty and students.

The lecture focused on the evaluation of Chinese economic history research. Professor Wei Mingkong first introduced the achievements of Chinese economic history research since the reform and opening up. Since the reform and opening up, Chinese economic history research has advanced steadily and entered the "second peak", with main achievements concentrated in the excavation and collation of economic history materials, the introduction of underground archaeological materials, the display of diversified research methods, the vigorous development of Belt and Road research, especially the research on the Maritime Silk Road, breakthroughs in social transformation research, intensive academic conferences on economic history, the promotion of various thematic studies, the summary of the academic methods and concepts of predecessors, and the strengthening of social care. At the same time, current research still has problems such as the rarity of macro-throughout achievements and the separate administration of historical and economic methods.

On this basis, Professor Wei Mingkong proposed that economic history research should have different levels of perspectives, including long-term and short-term, macro, meso, and micro levels. The main trends in economic history research are as follows: the integration of theories and methods of economics, sociology, and history, the strengthening of the screening and utilization of economic history materials and database construction, and the focus on major theoretical propositions of China's economic development. Academic evaluation should guard against the tendency of "evaluating papers by journals" and attach importance to the growth of young scholars.

At the end of the lecture, faculty and students on site actively participated in interactive exchanges. Professor Wei Mingkong patiently answered questions and imparted his own experience, providing new thinking angles and research ideas for the faculty and students, and the on-site academic atmosphere was strong.
