Recently, the Department of Ideological and Political Work of the Ministry of Education released the selection results of the Fifth Batch of Demonstration Construction and Quality Improvement Program for Party Building in Institutions of Higher Education in the New Era. The Second Party Branch of Economics of Beijing Normal University Business School (BNUBS) has been successfully shortlisted as a cultivation and development unit of the Fifth Batch of National Model Party Branches for Party Building Work. This achievement fully demonstrates BNUBS’s solid progress in consistently leading high-quality institutional development through Party building and exploring distinctive Party building practices tailored to economics and management disciplines.

Founded in January 2021, the Second Party Branch of Economics is a vertical mixed student Party branch covering undergraduates, master’s and doctoral students, built around Educational Economics and Administration, a national key discipline. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the branch fully implements the Party’s educational policy, closely follows the strategic deployment of building an education power, adheres to the university motto “Learn, so as to instruct others; Act, to serve as example to all”, and leverages the school’s strengths in discipline-based talent cultivation. It keeps integrating Party building deeply with talent training, academic research and public services. In recent years, the branch has been named a cultivation and development unit of Beijing Municipal Model Party Branches for University Party Building, and won top honors including the Advanced Party Branch and the First-Class Jingshi Vanguard Party Branch of Beijing Normal University.

I. Consolidating the Foundation of Faith and Forge Strong Combat Fortresses Through Standardized Construction

The branch always puts political development in the foremost position, strictly enforces the system of holding Party branch general meetings, meetings of Party branch committees, Party group meetings, and Party lectures (the "Three Meetings and One Lecture" system), and continuously improves mechanisms for division of work among branch committee members, Party member recruitment, daily administration and performance evaluation. Centered on regular theoretical learning, standardized organizational life and full-cycle cultivation of Party members, the branch has developed a four-tier learning mechanism: learning guided by academic supervisors, joint research among branch committee members, collective study of all Party members, and practical learning through field activities. It regularly organizes collective reading of red classics, lectures on Party history delivered by distinguished scholars, and themed Party day research tours, guiding young Party members to strengthen their ideals and convictions and upgrade political competence through theoretical study and on-site education. Drawing on its strength as a mixed branch of undergraduates, masters and doctoral candidates, the branch promotes a mentoring model of senior members guiding juniors, forming a complete chain of experience sharing in Party administration, academic research, career planning and volunteer services, thus continuously enhancing the cohesion and fighting capacity of the branch.

II. Empowering Party Building with Academic Advantages and Create Distinctive Party Building Brands Rooted in Disciplinary Characteristics

Relying on the national key discipline of Educational Economics and Administration, the branch embeds Party building into the whole process of academic training, research innovation and professional growth, striving to build an "academic Party building" brand with distinctive features of educational economics. Adhering to the development philosophy that political guidance steers academic research and academic achievements enrich the connotation of Party building, the branch regularly hosts signature events including the Youth Lecture Series on Educational Economics. Through alumni sharing sessions, academic seminars and joint study activities with other Party branches, it realizes organic integration of theoretical learning, academic exchange and organizational life. The branch encourages Party members to conduct research on educational equity, educational finance, family education, human capital development, digital economy and talent cultivation, integrating professional studies into the practice of building an education power and forming a virtuous cycle where Party building guides research and research nourishes Party building.

III. Combining Knowledge and Practice to Demonstrate the Responsibility of Party Members Through Practical Public Services

The branch extends its organizational life to frontlines of social practice, guiding Party members to receive education, build capabilities and make contributions through red research tours, volunteer services, labor education, joint Party building with grassroots organizations and rural revitalization practices. It integrates patriotic education, theoretical learning and labor education into daily routines via knowledge contests, voluntary tree-planting, social surveys and professional policy proposals, translating BNUBS’s disciplinary strengths into tangible outcomes that serve faculty, students, grassroots communities and the wider society. Meanwhile, supported by coordinated mechanisms linking the Party, the Communist Youth League and class committees as well as its vertical training system for students across all academic levels, the branch continuously organizes peer-sharing and mentoring covering academic research, further study, career development and grassroots employment, guiding Party members to align personal growth with national development strategies.

Being selected as a cultivation and development unit of the Fifth Batch of National Model Party Branches for Party Building Work is both an honor and a solemn responsibility. The Second Party Branch of Economics will further summarize its construction experience, refine working mechanisms, create characteristic brands and amplify its exemplary influence. Taking this selection as a new starting point, the Party Committee of BNUBS will continue to uphold Party building leadership, leverage disciplinary strengths, prioritize fostering virtue through education, and strive to produce more replicable, promotable and demonstrative grassroots Party building achievements. It will contribute to the high-quality development of Party building at the school, the university’s Double World-Class initiative, and the national strategy of building a powerful education system.
