The First China Economist International Economics Frontier Forum was Successfully Held

On December 4, 2021, the first China Economist International Economics Frontier Forum was successfully held. The forum was sponsored by the Editorial Department of China Economist and BNU Business School, and co-organized by the Editorial Department of China Industrial Economics and the Editorial Department of Economic Management. Present at the meeting were Zhou Zuoyu, Vice President of Beijing Normal University, Shi Dan, Director of the Institute of Industrial Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, He Dexu, President of the Institute of Financial Strategy at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Wei Houkai, director of the Institute of Rural Development, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhang Qizai, Associate Director of the Institute of Industrial Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Qi Yudong, Dean of BNUBS, Hw-chang Moon, Professor at Seoul Graduate School of Science and Former Dean of The School of International Studies at Seoul National University, Lin Cui, Tenured Professor, Australian National University, Li Gang, Deputy Editor of China Economist, Liang Yongmei, Deputy Director of Editorial Department, Cai Hongbo, Associate Dean of BNUBS, Jiao Hao, Director of the Department of Business Management of BNUBS, and experts and scholars from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China, Xiamen University, Jilin University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Seoul National University, Australian National University, University of Bonn, University of Liverpool and other sibling institutions at home and abroad.   

 

 

 

 

Qi Yudong, Dean of BNUBS, presided over the opening ceremony. Shi Dan, Director of the Institute of Industrial Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Zhou Zuoyu, Vice President of Beijing Normal University delivered speeches respectively.Director Shi Dan analyzed the global economy in the post-pandemic era and the current challenges and opportunities in China, and proposed that IIE and its affiliated academic journals would like to work together with academic colleagues to promote the development of Economics by bringing the high-quality journals’ role into full play. Vice President Zhou Zuoyu stressed that the epidemic has intensified the profound changes not seen in a century, but it has also provided us with a lot of research materials. He pointed out that the forum jointly held by The China Economist and BNUBS is a meaningful exploration to promote Chinese academics to go global and strengthen academic exchanges and dialogues between China and other countries. 

 

The keynote speech was presided by CaiHongbo, Associate Dean of BNUBS.

 

He Dexu, President of the Institute of Financial Strategy of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, analyzed the application of fintech in China from the perspective of financial innovation, and proposed that fintech is an innovation to financial theory from the perspective of realistic reform of financial industry. He also expounded the development of China's fintech industry and enterprises, and made an in-depth analysis of the planning, policy framework and regulatory measures of fintech.

 

Hwy-chang Moon, Professor at Seoul Graduate University of Science and Technology, former Dean of the School of International Studies at Seoul National University, explained the country's economic growth from the strategy and thought behind the economic development and established a new ABCD model. Especially, he combined the ancient classical thoughts, such as Confucius and Sun Tzu's art of War, which provided us with important enlightenment of understanding a country's economic development strategy and analyzing the current hot international economic issues.

 

 

Keynote speech

 

Wei Houkai, Director of the Institute of Rural Development of The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, elaborated many important issues from the connotation and definition of agricultural and rural modernization, and laid out the current shortcomings, challenges, and the path and focus of realizing these goals based on the change and prediction of 2035 basic modernization targets. The irreplaceable role of food in demand and long-term strategy was highlighted.

 

Cui Lin, a tenured professor at The Australian National University, introduced the changes of Foreign direct investment in China in recent years from the national and regional levels, sorted out the main results of relevant research at home and abroad in terms of motivation, strategy and regional selection, and comprehensively evaluated the current research progress based on micro and macro perspectives. More importantly, he proposed some ideas and valuable suggestions for future research from these works.

Liang Yongmei, deputy Director of Editorial Department of China Economist, gave an introduction of the journal, WechatOfficial Account and IGGS database which is being established.

The theme of sub-forum 1 is Green Development, hosted by Liu Chengqing, Deputy Director of Editorial Department of China Population, Resources and Environment, and commented by Nian Meng, Associate Researcher of Rural Development Institute of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Shao Bintao, Associate Professor of School of Economics and Management of Shihezi University. Luo Yangfan, Economics Teaching and Research Department of Chongqing Party School, Wang Cheng, Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center of Carbon Emission Right Trading, Hubei University of Economics, SuDaiyu, China Collaborative Innovation Center for Financial Development, Central University of Finance and Economics, reported their papers successively.

 

The theme of sub-forum 2 is Innovation Management, moderated by Jiao Hao, Dean of the Department of Business Administration, BNUBS, commented by Wu Lixue, Researcher of The Institute of Industrial Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Chen Qiangyuan, Associate Professor of the National Academy of Development and Strategy, Renmin University of China. Yao Zhenjiu, School of Management, University of Science and Technology of China, XiongZhiqiao, School of Economics and Management, Changsha University of Science and Technology, Hua Yun, School of Statistics, Beijing Normal University, and Zhang Hui, School of Economics, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law respectively reported their papers.

 

The theme of sub-forum 3 is International Trade, moderated by Li Shiqiang, Associate Dean of School of Economics, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, commented by Yan Mei, Editorial Department of Economic Management and Chen Jianwei, Associate Researcher of Center for Education and Open Economy, University of International Business and Economics. Zhang Tijun from School of Economics, Shanghai University, Wang Huan from School of Economics, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Wang Ying from School of Economics, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Wang Yan from Department of Economics teaching and Research of Chongqing Party School of CPC reported their papers successively.
