2021 Capital Business Forum Was Successfully Held

The 2021 Capital Business Forum, hosted by Seoul School of Integrated Science & Technologies, aSSIST and co-organized by Beijing Normal University Business School, BNUBS and Kogod Business School, American University was successfully held. Scholars from renowned universities in 10 capitals, including Beijing, Washington, Seoul, Tokyo, London, Paris, Rome, Canberra, Istanbul and Mumbai, attended the forum. The main forum is held in Seoul, with two sub-forums in Beijing and Washington respectively, and it is conducted both online and offline. Dean Qi Yudong delivered the opening speech at the forum, and the School's high-end overseas experts Prof. Hway-chang Moon, Prof. Lin Cui, Prof. KimioKase, Associate Dean Cai Hongbo, Associate Professor Zheng Feihu, Associate Professor Zhou Jianghua, and Assistant Professor Cao Siwei made speeches at the forum.    

 

The morning session was chaired by Wenyan Yin, Assistant Professor of aSSIST University.  Mr. Taehyun Kim, President of aSSIST University, opened the speech by saying that aSSIST University is very honored to join the Capital Business Forum as a university in the capital of Korea. The capital was the political, economic and cultural center and we needed to work with the government to make strategic adjustments against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused a strong impact on the world. Dean Qi Yudong then delivered a speech.  He pointed out that economic globalization benefits everyone, and countries need to deepen understanding, manage differences and cooperate for win-win results. Today, we are discussing economic, social, cultural, scientific, technological and educational aspects of the Capitals from different countries, histories and cultural backgrounds. This has demonstrated that we are enhancing mutual trust and promoting cooperation through people-to-people exchanges and mutual learning.

The theme of the forum was "The New Business Paradigm for Firms, Major Cities, and Nations in The Pandemic Era". Professor Hway-Chang Moon, Honorary Professor of Seoul National University, Chairman of The Institute of Policy and Strategy of aSSIST, and high-end overseas expert of Beijing Normal University, former head of the WTO-TBT negotiation delegation of the Ministry of Commerce, and Researcher An Baisheng of the Research Institute of the Ministry of Commerce delivered keynote speeches respectively.

Then, the forum is divided into 4 Panels, which are Entrepreneurship and Government Policies for Corporate Innovation, The COVID-19 Pandemic and Response Strategy, and The  Changing Nature of Corporate Innovation and Leadership and Cultural Industries, and they are hosted by Associate Professor Zhou Jianghua, Assistant Professor Cao Siwei, Assistant Professor Wenyan Yin, and Professor Hway-Chang Moon respectively.  

 

The Panel 1 was hosted by Associate Professor Zhou Jianghua. There are many speakers in this forum, which included Prof. Erran Carmel, American university, USA; Prof. SaverioRemee, birkbeck college, university of London; Prof. Ji Yeum (Rose) Kim, university of Kentucky, USA; and Mr. DamirKusen, ambassador of Croatia to Korea. Scholars and officials reported and discussed Entrepreneurship and Government Policies for Corporate Innovation.

The Panel 2 was hosted by Assistant Professor Cao Siwei of our School. The speakers were Minyeung Kim, Associate Professor, University of Kansas, USA, Jae Bin Ahn, Assistant professor, Seoul National University, and Associate Professor PınarBüyükbalc, , Yilidiz Technical University, Turkey. The Panel focused on "The COVID-19 Pandemic and Response Strategy".

The afternoon meeting was chaired by Associate Dean Cai Hongbo. The Panel 3 was hosted by by Wenyan Yin, aSSIST University, Seoul. The speakers were Professor KirankumarS . Momayaof IIT Bombay, our high-end overseas expert Professor Lin Cui, and Alessandro Piperno of LUISS University in Italy. The Panel concentrated on“The Changing Nature Corporate Innovation”.

The Panel 4 was hosted by Professor Hwy-Chang Moon. The Speakers were KimioKase, Former President of the International University of Japan and high-level overseas expert of our School; Eugene Choi, Professor of Ritsumeikan University, Japan; Patrick Messerlin, Professor of Sciences Po, Paris; and Jimmyn Pare, visiting scholar. The Panel focused on“Leadership and Cultural Industries: Progress and Prospects”.

Finally, Professor Hway-Chang Moon made the closing summary. He pointed out that the Capital Business Forum, as a global platform, has attracted scholars from different countries and different cultural backgrounds to discuss issues in economy, society, culture, science and technology and education from the unique perspective of "capital", which is of great value and significance. Professor Hway-Chang Moon pointed out that with the formal establishment of the RCEP cooperation process, the economic, trade and scientific and technological exchanges among China, the ROK and Japan are expected to enter a new stage. Scholars form BNU, aSSIST and other researchers from well-known universities in the Capital region who participated in this forum should pay more attention to and actively participate in the development of regional integration from an academic perspective, and make more intellectual contributions to the stable development of globalization and regional integration in the post-epidemic era.

So far, the Fifth Capital Business Forum was successfully closed. Since its First establishment in Beijing Normal University in 2016, it has expanded to Washington in 2017, Beijing in 2018 and Rome in 2019. Today we can see that the scale of the forum is further expanded and the discussion content is more abundant, which further builds a platform for high-level international exchanges and cooperation of our School.
