The 11th Annual Conference on Management Case Studies Held Online Successfully --over 1,000 Researchers Exchanged Ideas on the Cloud

In order to further promote the development of management case studies in China, carry forward the Chinese characteristic management theory, and encourage the scientific researchers during the outbreak to gather momentum ceaselessly, following the 10 Annual Conferences on Management Case Studies, the National Graduate Education Steering Committee for MBA, Chinese Academy of Management Steering Committee for Management Case Studies, and China Management Case-sharing Center co-host the 11th Annual Conference on Management Case Studies. The Conference was organized by BNUBS by videoconference from July 15 to 16, 2020.

 

 

Opening Ceremony

 

This Annual Conference attracted nearly 2,000 scholars from all over the country. The opening ceremony of the conference was presided by Professor Su Jingqin, chairman of the Chinese Academy of Management Steering Committee for Management Case Studies and director of China Management Case-sharing Center.

 

Speakers, experts and host

 

At the opening ceremony, Bai Chong’en, the vice chairman of the committee, recorded a video the day before the meeting due to the temporary schedule adjustment, and delivered the opening address in the form of video. Mr. Bai, on behalf of the National Graduate Education Steering Committee for MBA, affirmed the work of China Management Case-sharing center. He believes management case is a work of great value, with a great important significance for management practice of enterprise, for talent cultivation of colleges and universities, for innovation of the management theories and even for the global communication of China stories. The new generation of National Graduate Education Steering Committee for MBA will also continue to increase investment in case studies, and strive for a new stage in the next five years, or ten years. Professor Qi Yudong, dean of BNUBS, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizer, thanking the Committee for its trust, and welcoming all of the guests to come to Beijing Normal University after the outbreak.

 

Professor Zhu Fangwei stressed that China Management Case-sharing Center will continue to promote development of the China management case studies and teaching, keep pace with times and innovate, explore new and more effective practice forms. He also thanked National Graduate Education Steering Committee for MBA, the organizer, speakers and experts, and representatives for their support for China Management Case-sharing Center, sspecially Professor Su Jingqin, for his dedication over the years that he has made indelible contribution to the development of China Management Case-sharing Center.

 

  

 

 

  Conveners of Parallel Sessions

 

The theme of this Conference is "Management Practices in China in the VCUA Era". The Conference revolves around strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, organization, international marketing, culture and human resource management of VCUA environment, carried out a variety of ways such as invited lectures, papers presentations, expert comments and Q&A to communicate in depth and detail, and paid special attention to all kinds of basic and applied research of case study and qualitative analysis as the main method. Professor Wei Jiang, Professor Jing Runtian, Professor Tian Zhilong, Professor Wang Fengbin and Professor Su Jingqin respectively gave a keynote speeches entitled “Observation-Insight-Emergence: Quaternity Case Studies”, “Personal Experience of Single Case Study", “How to Read Management Thought of China Outstanding Entrepreneur”, “Reasoning in the Single Case Study and Cases Study", "Local Supplier Management System and the Decoupling of Globalization under the Outbreak”. The guests almost unanimously focused on the logical thinking, practical experience and reflective interpretation of the case study method, and took their own specific research as an example to vividly illustrate how to use the case study method to do research and draw scientific and credible conclusions. In addition to scientific research, it is also possible to "fully blossom" from teaching, consulting, business management and other aspects, providing a platform for the growth of a teacher in business schools in a three-dimensional way, and becoming an effective channel for teachers to develop. Professor Tian Zhilong, Professor Su Jingqin, Professor Zhou Jian, Professor Jin Rungui and Professor Jing Runtian commented respectively, and Professor Zhu Fangwei, Associate Professor Zhou Jianghua and Associate Professor Qian Jing presided over the keynote reports and comments.

   

In the morning of July 16, Professor Xu Hui, Professor Yu Xiaoyu, Professor Liu Zhiying, Professor Cui Miao, Professor Hu Haibo, Associate Professor Shi Shengping, Professor Zhou Ning, and Associate Professor Wang Shaofei summoned 38 papers of case study and case teaching research, which is divided into four groups to be presented. The corresponding conveners commented on the papers of each group, giving the authors suggestions for further modification.

 

Then, in the session of  "Dialogue with Management Journals Editors", under the auspices of Professor Zhu Fangwei, Professor Cheng Xinsheng, Associate Researcher Wang Ping, Professor Qiao Han, Professor Su Jingqin respectively introduced the general information of Nankai Business Review , Science Research Management , Management Review , and Journal of Management Case Studies and meticulous patiently answered questions from the audience.

 

" Dialogue with Management Journals Editors "

 

At the closing ceremony, Professor Zhu Fangwei read out the list of "Best Paper" and "Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation" selected in this annual Conference and comments. “How can a Latecomer Achieve Subversion?-- A Dual Case Study Based on the Perspective of Innovation Value Chain“ by Hu Haibo, Mao Chunbing, Lu Haitao and Fei Meiju won the “Best Paper”; “Study on the transformation of traditional enterprises to awaken ‘sleeping resources’ -- Case of Lidu Liquor Industry”by Ni Zebo, Du Wenyu, Gong Ke, and Ouyang Taohua, and “Exploration of the Matching Mode between Product Architecture and Distribution Channels: A Longitudinal Case Study of Yongyou Company”by Xia Mengyuan and Gu Yuanxun won the "Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation".

 

  

 

 

Awarded Thesis Certificates

 

Professor Xu Hui, Professor Cui Miao, Associate Professor Shi Shengping and Associate Professor Wang Shaofei reported on behalf of four groups of parallel sessions about the paper preaching, commenting and communication. At last, Professor Su Jingqin proposed in his closing speech that the current epidemic is a test and challenge to China management theory, and it is also an excellent opportunity during the shuffling period. He wished everyone can find problems, master methods and insight theories, and have special harvest in a special period. Teachers attending the Conference said that they had gained a lot during the meeting. They hoped that the communication time of the Conference could be longer. They are looking forward to meeting again offline after the epidemic.
