On behalf of the school, Professor Cai Hongbo congratulated and welcomed the 14 new master students of WEC (World Economy and China) program and the 6 new doctoral students of DID (International Development) program in the class of 2020. Then he briefly introduced the basic situation of BNU and BNUBS, the development of WEC project and the setting background of DID project. During the meeting, he gave much emphasis on the special international talent training mode of BNUBS, put up many suggestions for overseas students who were temporarily unable to carry out on-site learning in BNU due to COVID-19, and hoped that they can overcome the difficulties, seize the opportunities and make more efforts to promote their all-round growth.

Professor He Liping, teachers' representative of the WEC Program, said that he was pleased to see more and more foreign students joining the two programs. Taking his previous experiences in teaching WEC program courses, he shared with the new students ways in how to broaden their horizons and spend a good time in BNU. Vice-professor Wang Yan, teachers' representative of the DID Program, shared with students his own experiences in learning and doing research and gave best wishes to the students. Vice-Professor Zheng Feihu, tutor of the programs, talked in a rather humorous way. He compared the two student representatives Ali Jan and RAAZ Ali to members of the “Ali Family” and also wished them to be the academic “unicorn” in the WEC and DID program. Both the freshman’s representative and the senior students’ representative talked about the great economic miracle they have witnessed since they came to China and, full of passion, hoped to actively participate in the research and study in BNU so as to contribute to the development of the society.

The 2020 new students of WEC and DID program came from many different countries, including Singapore, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tunisia, Namibia, Tanzania, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Ghana. Many of them couldn’t get to school because of the COVID-19. But they have completed the registration online. And at present, the online teaching and research activities of the programs are running smoothly and in good order.
