The MBA Tutor Symposium was Held Successfully

On September 23th, 2020, MBA Center held a symposium of MBA tutors in 9406, JINGSHI HOTEL. Dean Qi Yudong and more than twenty MBA tutors attended the symposium. Associate Dean Cui Xuegang, who is in charge of MBA Center; Sun Chuan, Director of MBA Center; Li Jing, Associate Director of MBA Center made speeches respectively on the overall development of MBA Center, the problems existing in the process of thesis supervision, case teaching and its connection with practice. The tutors engaged in a heated discussion on these topics.

 

First of all, Associate Dean Cui Xuegang thanked all the tutors for their long-term efforts. Then, he introduced the recent changes and development of MBA Center and by combining with the data of the last round of MBA professional assessment, he analyzed the key bottlenecks restricting the development of MBA and pointed out that the quality of case teaching and graduation thesis was the most basic aspect to improve teaching quality and academic quality and build the brand. He also hoped that all tutors could pool their wisdom and strengthen guidance in the following work to continuously improve the quality of MBA thesis.

Based on the relevant data of dissertation in recent years, Director Sun Chuan analyzed the non-acceptance rate of each step, such as thesis proposal, review on the completed paper, and thesis defense, then he reiterated that the tutors should be responsible for their students’ dissertation from the beginning to the end. In order to do a better job in the upcoming thesis proposal defense work, we should further clarify the standards of thesis writing: Firstly, the topic should adhere to the problem-oriented principle, focus on one problem, use one theory and establish one framework. Secondly, the topic should be as specific as possible to the enterprise level, topics should be carefully grasped for the industry, regional level; Thirdly, students must choose a topic within the field of Business Administration and write a thesis from the perspective of management.

In her speech, Associate Director Li Jing introduced in detail the deployment of some work for the 2020 fall semester. The MBA Center would hold a series of lectures on cutting-edge digital economy and management in the new semester so as to “throw out” the focus, guide students to think, and provide students with more diversified learning platforms and resources. At the same time, the Center would continue to promote case teaching in the follow-up work, encourage students to participate by setting up credits, and establish a model where case materials were provided by students and teachers and students engaged in cooperation.

 

At the end of the symposium, tutors also made active speeches, offered suggestions and reached a lot of consensus. The meeting ended smoothly in a heated discussion.
