Professor Wang Shanmai was Awarded the “Four Haves” Good Teacher Gold Medal

On the afternoon of September 10th, Professor Wang Shanmai of our School was awarded the The 2th BNU “Four Haves” Good Teacher Gold Medal in the celebration of the 36th Teacher's Day and the 118th anniversary of the university. In order to carry forward the “Four Haves” Good Teacher spirit proposed by Present Xi’s speech, set role models for respecting teachers and valuing education and recognize distinguished teachers who have made outstanding achievements in education and teaching, BNU set up the “Four Haves” Good Teacher Gold Medal Award in a way to give credit to the full-time in-service teachers with noble ethics, passion for their jobs, love for students, correct teaching style and awareness in imparting of knowledge.

 

Graduated from the Education Department of Beijing Normal University in 1958, Professor Wang Shanmai stayed here for teaching. He is one of the founders of China's Educational Economics, a leader of the development of China's Educational Economics and has made outstanding contributions to the development of China's Educational Economics.

 

In the 60 years as a teacher, Professor Wang Shanmai always treat his students like his own children and act as their guide. He was the first to engage in educational economics teaching in China, and he has had many students all over the world. His postgraduate and doctoral students in Economics and Educational Economics have become the backbone of scientific research in China’s universities and research institutions, as well as the leaders and administrators of central and local governments. He never stopped teaching, even in his illness. In 2001, before and after his cancer surgery, Professor Wang Shanmai still cared for his students and his scientific research projects. During the postoperative chemotherapy, he still kept working, gave students' guidance for their graduation thesis from the hospital bed, and reviewed a series of professional books and reports. The faculty and students were deeply inspired by Professor Wang Shanmai's rigorous scholarship and strong spirit of overcoming the disease.

 

Professor Wang said, “I would like to be a teacher all my life and get along with my students all my life.” Professor Wang Shanmai has been devoted to the teaching of Educational Economics for nearly 60 years, during which he is both strict and caring and never lose his original aspiration. With deep commitment to scientific research, assiduous pursuit, truth-seeking attitude, he still carry on research and work every day. Being possessed with the air of great master and adhering to true scholarship, he is indeed a role model for our teachers and students!

 

About Professor Wang Shanmai:

Wang Shanmai, male, born in 1937, Beijing; Professor, Doctoral supervisor, BNUBS, Dean of Capital Institute of Education Economics, BNU. In 1958, he graduated from the Education Department of Beijing Normal University and stayed there to teach and then he graduated from the Economics Department of Renmin University of China in 1962. He has been invited to the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong, Columbia University, the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Tamkang University and other universities for lectures and academic exchange activities. He has long been engaged in the teaching and research of Economics and Education Economics, and has been consulted in the decision-making and management consulting by relevant central and local government agencies. He is a famous education economist and one of the founders of Education Economics in China. As a major member, he once participated in the formulation of major national education policies and development plans such as the Outline for China's Education Reform and Development and the National Education Development Plan , making important contributions to the construction of China's educational financial system. Now he is also a member of the School Administration Committee. Social part-time jobs mainly include: honorary President of China Education Economics Research Association, expert of National Education Supervision Group, expert consultant of Beijing Municipal Government, adjunct Professor of Peking University and University of Tokyo, part-time researcher of the National Education Development Research Center, Editor-in-Chief of the journal Education and Economy, and former leader of the Chinese expert group of the World Bank's Education Loan project. He has won outstanding Communist Party Member of Beijing, Outstanding Communist Party Member of Beijing University, First prize of Outstanding Achievement Award of Social Science of Beijing, Second Prize of Outstanding Achievement Award of Humanities and Social Science of Ministry of Education, National Book Award, Outstanding Graduate Tutor of Beijing Normal University, Outstanding Award of Education and Teaching of Beijing Normal University, etc. He has published more than 100 papers in academic journals at home and abroad, more than 10 higher education textbooks and monographs, and presided over more than 20 projects funded by national, provincial and ministerial levels and international organizations.
