KPMG Managing Partner Employed as Our School’s Visiting Professor

On Feb 26, 2019, our School and our university’s Education Foundation jointly held a symposium “Economic Opportunities and Thinking Brought by Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge”. The keynote speakers are Mr. Gong Yongde, member of the national committee of CPPCC and the managing partner of KPMG’s China region, and Mr. Wang Bonian, who is the chairman and founder of Bonian Public Welfare Foundation. The two guests introduced the opportunities and challenges brought to China by the Bridge and the Greater Bay Area Plan. In the meantime, Mr Gong Yongde was invited and employed to be our School’s visiting professor.

 

Before the symposium, Zhang Kai, vice president of our University and president of the Education Foundation received Gong. He said that Beijing Normal University will rely on high-quality educational resources and the development layout of "One Body with Two Wings" to serve the development and construction of the Guang Dong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, train a large number of high-quality teachers and improve regional educational level. Gong said that the completion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will be conducive to the optimal allocation of resources in the three places, and Zhuhai will also become a talent highland for high-end talents at home and abroad. He looked forward to strengthening exchanges with Beijing Normal University in the future and contributing to the development of education and the University’s Zhuhai branch. Zhang Wulong, secretary-general of the Education Foundation, Li Shenglan, deputy secretary-general, and Cui Xuegang, deputy dean of the Business School accompanied him.

On the symposium, Gong Yongde reported on his theme “Economic Opportunities and Thinking Brought by Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge”. He told the influence of the building of an-hour life circle in the Bay Area in per capita income, infrastructure construction, enterprise and the important role of economic development. At the same time, he points out that to establish a suitable tax policy for regional development of Hong Kong and Macao will further promote the talents exchange and collaboration in mainland and Hong Kong and Macao and to better play the unique advantages of the Greater Bay Area.

After that, Mr. Wang Bonian shared his viewpoints of the opportunities and challenges of the Greater Bay Area Plan brought for the students of Beijing Normal University.

The presentation was colorful and interactive. More than 140 teachers and students attended the lectures, which were well received.

Gong yongde, head partner and senior consultant of KPMG China, is a member of the 13th national committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, President of the Hong Kong institute of taxation from 2007 to 2009. Since June 2016, he has been employed as an accounting consulting expert by the Ministry of Finance of China. With more than 30 years of experience, Mr. Gong has advised multinational companies on tax and business regulations in areas such as mergers and acquisitions, transfer pricing and planning in the mainland.
