11th China Strategic Management Scholars Forum Successfully Held by BNU Business School

On Dec 15-16, 2018, the 11th China Strategic Management Scholars Forum was successfully held by China management Science Society (CMSS), the organizing committee of the Forum and the Beijing Normal University. The Forum was held at the Jingshi Building of BNU and the Strategic Management Department of our school organized this forum. With the theme of "theory and practice of strategic management of Chinese enterprises in the context of new era", this session will deeply discuss several important issues in the development of strategic management theory and practice in VUCA era. More than 200 experts and scholars from dozens of domestic universities and research institutions including Peking University, Tsinghua University, University of International Business and Economics, and Nanjing University attended the Forum.

 

Before the opening ceremony, three speeches respectively by Professor Fan Libo from the Business School of University of International Business and Economics, Professor Wu Yjun, from the Guanghua Management College of Peking University and Professor Jiao Hao from the Business School of BNU. Professor Zhang Pingdan and Professor Zhang Guoyou, respectively from BNU and CMSS addressed the opening ceremony.

 

Zhang Guoyou introduced the history and organizational structure of the institute and deeply discussed what strategic management is; reasons and grounds for the existence of strategic management; The content and boundary of strategic management are thought-provoking, which opens up a good communication and thinking atmosphere for the Forum.

Professor Zhang Pingdan reviewed the glorious history of the Forum in the past 15 years, and stressed that the forum has adhered to the original heart of freedom, openness, non-government and regular, and insists on the dialogue and exchange between the non-government. He also introduced participants to the history of Beijing Normal University and the characteristics of its Business School.

Focusing on the theme of "Chinese situation and best practices of strategic management", Professor Wu Changqi from the Guanghua School of management, Peking University firstly started from the core questions to be answered by strategic management, emphasizing that strategic management is the science of practice, so the differences between China and other countries should be understood. After that, he reviewed the development history of China's strategic management and analyzed how strategic management can help Chinese enterprises solve urgent problems, so as to help Chinese enterprises renew their vitality and better promote the institutional construction of China's economy.

Professor Wu Changqi from the Guanghua School of management, Peking University stated his views on the Forum.

 

Then, Professor Lei Jiasu, from the College of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University elaborated on his topic "China's technology innovation strategy for 40 years", summed up the economic growth since the reform and opening up, the 40 years of technical innovation stage summary, from imitation to improve, to innovation, emphatically analyzed the key point of the main approach to innovation evolution, prospects the future of technological innovation and the maneuverability of strategic management.

Professor Lei Jiasu, from the College of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University elaborated on his topic.

 

Then Gao Minghua, professor at the Business School of BNU made a speech on "thinking" about elimination of formalization in corporate governance by analyzing China corporate governance index data, the protection of the rights and interests of small and medium-sized investors, the board of directors governance index and other data, the major phenomena of formalization in corporate governance and puts forward effective suggestions on how to remove formalization.

Gao Minghua, professor at the Business School of BNU made a speech on "thinking" about elimination of formalization in corporate governance.

On the afternoon of Dec 15, 2018, a parallel forum was held and heated discussion was made at the forum.

On the morning of Dec 16, Professor Chen Jin from the Business School of Tsinghua University gave a talk on "the new framework of strategic management".

On the morning of Dec 16, Professor Wang Yonggui delivered his speech based on his research titled “The double-edged sword effect of reverse innovation transfer:from a signaling perspective”.

In the end, Professor Wei Yudong from the Business School of BNU expressed his idea on how the reform of state-owned enterprises will start in the new era”.
