Professor Qi Yudong and Teacher Xu Kaige Published Academic Papers in Management World

Recently, the paper Technological Revolution, Production Mode Change and Enterprise Organizational Structure Adjustment co-authored by Professor Qi Yudong of BNUBS and Counselor Xu Kaige was published in the Management World No. 10, 2024. Based on the logic line of "technological revolution-transformation of production mode - adjustment of organizational structure", this paper traces and deconstructs the basic law and underlying logic of the evolution of enterprise organizational structure based on the dual perspective of technological evolution and value creation, identifies the paradoxical relationship behind the factors restricting the digital transformation of organizations and tries to put forward a comprehensive and universal organizational structure adjustment idea under the complex system thinking in the era of digital economy.

In the era of digital economy, the organization and management of enterprises will show different operating characteristics from the era of industrial economy, so it is necessary for the management circle to keep pace with The Times and strengthen the basic theoretical research on the organization structure of enterprises, so as to create an independent knowledge system of Chinese management oriented to the era of digital economy. At present, the reform of enterprise organizational structure basically continues the "legacy" left by the industrialization era, that is, the pyramid-type hierarchical structure with "vertical hierarchy, irrelevant horizontal isolation" as the main feature, this lagging organizational structure is inconsistent with the fundamental attributes and internal requirements of the digital economy, and deeply restricts the development of the digital economy. There is also relatively little discussion about the deep determinants of organizational structure, especially the relationship between organizational structure and technological revolution. This paper aims to carry out scientific research by integrating history and logic, excavate the interaction between technology evolution and organization from the perspective of economic history, especially the history of industrial revolution, and obtain the general law and evolution trend of enterprise organizational structure evolution, so as to find the key elements of organizational structure adjustment under the influence of digital technology and the logical main line unified with historical process. It is found that the tool-machine revolution always focuses on eliminating the technical factors that restrict the function expansion of tool-machine, and this process continuously prolongs the circuitous mode of production. The essence of organizational structure reform is the adaptability adjustment of internal division of labor to the circuitous mode of production. The "duality of machine" and "duality of management" reveal the trend of vertical decentralization, flattening and horizontal transboundary and penetrating of organizational structure. The organization management system formed by reductionist thinking in the traditional industrial era is no longer suitable for the organization practice characterized by complexity. It is urgent for enterprises to establish complex system thinking in order to resolve the paradox dilemma in the organization structure adjustment.
