International Summer School on Campus

 

• BNUBS-IBS International Summer School

The BNUBS-IBS International Summer School was held by Beijing Normal University Business School (BNUBS) and International Business School Americas (IBS).Invited lectures included BNU Business School teachers Prof. He Liping, Prof. Hu Biliang, Associate Professor Guo Ji, Associate Professor Yang Dan, Dr. Zhang Ruixin; Prof. Ying Wu from Salisbury University of US, Prof.Frederic Bonnet from the Capital University of Economics and Business, as well as Prof. Patrick Behar-Courtois, who is an experienced economist.This program offered wonderful courses including: China’s Economy, Corporate Strategy, International Trade & Investment, also Cross-cultural Management, etc. Despite classroom lectures, the students also visited the Lenovo and Quanjude company, being able to have a brief understanding ofthese two Chinese high-tech/traditional enterprises’ unique company history, culture and products. Theories combined with practice, traditional featurescomplemented with modernization, the interesting activities enabled attendants to have a more intuitive understanding of China’s economy.

This summer school program was held from July the 1st to the 16th, attendants expressed that they were able to gain valuable life experiences and friendship in this two-week program. Donald Kevin Cupido from South Africa said that this unique experience made him further understand the importance of “eliminating prejudice and misunderstanding, obtain new knowledge with an open mind”; and Victor Theodosio Semeghini from Brazil would like to say to next year’s participants: “Come on, my friends, everything here won’t let you down”.



• 2016Multidimensional Poverty Research Summer School

The Beijing Normal University - China Institute for Income Distribution Research Center, the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) and the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) mutually organized the 2016 “Multidimensional Poverty Research Summer School” in Beijing Normal University from August the 1st to the 13th. Around 80 attendants participated in this program, coming from government development policy establishingdepartments, statistics institutions, research institutes, universities and international institutions of over 26 countries such as the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Cameroon, India and Malaysia. This program is mainly focused on multidimensional poverty measurement and sustainable development goals of the United Nations. Being fully taught in English, lecturers of this summer school program included Prof. Sabina Alkire of Oxford;Prof. Foster James from the George Washington University; Prof. Li Shi, director of the BNU - China Institute for Income Distribution Research Center;ZuoChangsheng, Director General of the IPRCC and the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development – Information Center Deputy Director Wang Xiaolin, etc. Some of their topics included “What is Multidimensional Poverty”, “How to Construct Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI)” and “The Effectiveness and Efficiency of China’s Poverty Reduction Policies”.

 

To enhance attendants’ understanding of what they have learned, also to foster their ability of using new knowledge to solve practical issues; this summer school program has divided all attendants into different groups according to nationality, gender, research direction, job category and age range to ensure that each group includes government officials, statistics/research institution researchersand university scholars. Through group discussions, presentations, demonstrations as well as Q&A sections;a good learning environment was provided to all. Through this summer school program, the attendants were not only able to learn more knowledge about multidimensional poverty, but also established friendship with attendants from all over the world. This program received full support from the Beijing Normal University Graduate Student Office’s “Graduate Student Academic Platform Communication Key Construction Project”.

To improve student eyesight and international vision, also to provide them with more opportunities to experience different culture, the BNU Business School organized seven summer school events in 2016, which attracted around 100 students to attend.

  • Main Courses: Marketing and Value Management, Competitive Project Management, Corporate Financial Management, Strategic Thinking, Business English, etc. Also included visits to local prestigious enterprises and other featured activities.

2.Toulouse Business School - 9 Students

  • Location: Toulouse, France
  • Main Courses: Cross-cultural Management, EU Business Strategies, Luxury Market Management, Human Resource Management, etc. Also included city sight-seeing and company visit events.

3.Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences - 5 Students

  • Location: Ludwigshafen, Germany
  • Theme: Current Topic in European Business, Economics and Ecology
