内容简介：By changing transaction costs, trust can be an important determinant of interregional economic exchange. Based on several unique datasets of bilateral trust and trade at provincial level in China, this study investigates the trust-trade relationship empirically. As a channel of affecting bilateral trade, bilateral trust is incorporated into the gravity model. The baseline results show that the bilateral trust is positively correlated to the bilateral trade significantly. Two sensitivity tests using trust level to replace bilateral trust and using an alternative estimation of interprovincial trade in China, also confirm this positive trust-trade relationship. In addition, by controlling for institutional quality, labor migration, and the endogeneity of trust, we find that the trust-trade relationship is robust. This relationship seems to reveal a new channel of boosting bilateral trade, i.e., improving bilateral trust.

主讲人简介：行伟波，对外经济贸易大学国际贸易学院副教授。2006年毕业于北京大学光华管理学院，获经济学博士学位。主要研究领域包括公共财政、健康经济学、区域经济学和公司财务。行伟波教授的研究成果发表在China Economic Review、Review of Development Economics、《经济学季刊》、《管理科学学报》等一系列国内外顶级期刊上。
