Role perceptions linking authoritarian leadership and employee OCB:
A social information processing perspective

摘 要(Abstract): To better understand the influences of authoritarian leadership on employee organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), the authors use social information processing theory for exploring role perceptions as mediators. Authoritarian leadership is expected to negatively affect employee OCB through role conflict, role ambiguity, and role overload. Hypotheses are tested using data from 317 subordinate-supervisor dyads. Empirically, authoritarian leadership decreases subordinates’ OCB by increasing their role conflict and role overload, and increases their OCB by decreasing their role ambiguity. The article concludes with research and practical implications.
