摘要：

We examine the causal effect of working experience in multinational enterprises (MNEs) on promoting innovative entrepreneurship in China. By exploiting the deregulation of inflow foreign direct investment (FDI) policies in China, we construct a shift-share instrumental variable to capture local exposure to employment by MNEs. Combining a unique and representative enterprise survey data in China, we find a significant positive effect of Chinese entrepreneurs’ work experience in MNEs on their innovation and business performance. This confirms that the FDI spillovers foster domestic innovation through the entrepreneurial mobility channel. We further find that the mechanisms include technology and management spillovers, formalization, and knowledge transfer through outsourcing networks. The MNE-experienced entrepreneurs also engaged more in import and export and adopted more digital technologies.

 

报告人简介：

杨笑寒博士现任香港中文大学经济学系研究助理教授，研究领域为发展经济学与数字经济。他于北京大学获得理论经济学博士学位、环境科学和经济学学士学位。他长期参与北京大学“中国企业创新创业调查（ESIEC）”与“中国小微经营者调查（OSOME，与蚂蚁集团合作）”等中国小微企业调研项目,其研究成果发表在国际期刊Management Science和China Economic Journal，并主持1项香港研究资助局GRF基金项目。在香港中文大学，他讲授本科生、研究生项目的《数字经济专题》课程。他曾担任阿里巴巴集团机制设计与经济研究专员、高级数据分析师职务。
