摘要: China implemented its workweek reduction policy in 1995, shortening work days from 6 to 5 per week without reducing wage payment. Exploiting a Difference-in-Differences strategy, we find that both men and women decreased their labor supply. This workday reduction caused an immediate improvement in women's health status by alleviating sleep deprivation and decreasing work-related injuries. At the same time, we find that women became more leaning in toward the family while men tended to exploit such free time to acquire more education and earn an advantage in the labor market.
主讲人简介: 孙昂教授任教于中国人民大学财政金融学院。研究领域为发展经济学、劳动经济学、人口及老龄化。她毕业于美国布朗大学经济系,毕业后在Review of Economics and Statistics Journal of Development Economics, Management Science, Demography,以及《经济研究》等一系列中英文期刊上发表了多篇文章。孙昂现担任发展经济学期刊Journal of Development Economics的副主编。
