To introduce new learning styles, develop undergraduate students’research interests and innovative ability, motivate their academic enthusiasm, broaden their academic visions and form a favorable leaning as well as research atmosphere; the First Beijing Normal University Business School Undergraduate Academic Forum was successfully held from May 24th to 25thin 2014.
The Undergraduate Academic Forum has two sections: Main Forum and Sub-Forum.
On May 24th, the Sub-Forum was held in Rear Main Building of Beijing Normal University. 48 students were divided into 27 academic groups, and 6 groups were selected to give presentations in the Main Forum on the next day.
Held in Jingshi Hall on May 25th, the First Undergraduate Academic Forum invited Mr. Zheng Guomin, the Division Chief of Beijing Normal University’s Office of Academic Affairs and Dr. Lai Desheng, the Dean of Beijing Normal University Business School to give opening speeches. Mr. Zheng started by sending regards from Mr. (or Dr.) Shi Peijun, the Managing Vice President of Beijing Normal University. Mr. Zheng stated that the Beijing Normal University Business School has made great progress in recent years, especially praising its leading role in developing talents and the forum itself. He also proposed higher expectations for the Business School faculty members and students: he hopes that the business school continues to train top young talents, the communication between faculties and students could be strengthened; students could change their learning styles and develop in all aspects. Dean Lai Desheng congratulated on the opening of this forum and the 6 winning groups, praised the level of all finalists, emphasized the significance of this academic forum and sent sincere wishes.
The 6 group leaders: Su Zengrui, Liu Xiaoyuan, Liu Yanlin, Wang Keding, Yuan Ying and Geng Yuan each gave detailed and excellent presentations of their academic group’s thesis. Professor Zhong Wei and Professor Yang Chengyu commented on their reports.
After the student section, Professor Li Shi gave a speech on “How Undergraduate Students Conduct Scientific Research”, introducing three “essential conditions” necessary for scientific research: study theories, flexible learning and master economics methods, and three “sufficient conditions”: interest, persistency, atmosphere and personal understanding.
The last section of this event was the award ceremony; Su Zengrui’s group won the first prize, Liu Xiaoyuan’s group and four other groups won the second prize, Ouyang Renfei and six other groups won the third prize, Chen Zheming and twelve other groups won the “Excellent Awards” prize.
