1. Objective
World Economy and China is a master program aiming to cultivate high-level international and professional talents who have solid knowledge foundation and know well of China’s society, economy and culture, i.e. future business leaders with international vision, multicultural communication skills, and modern management ability. Graduates should be able to meet the requirements of international labor market, with the ability to work in multinational companies, government agencies, or international organizations.
2. Requirements
Students should finish 34 credits of coursework and thesis, which include 18 credits of compulsory courses, 10 credits of optional courses and 6 credits of thesis (1 credit = 18 class hours). Students are required to acquire basic economic theories and analysis tools, understand the mechanism of economic globalization and marketization, and its impact on the development of China’s economy. The ability of cross-cultural communication and primary level of Chinese reading, speaking and writing skills are also required.
3. Length
Study duration is 2 years (4 semesters) with enrollment in autumn every year. If you meet all the requirements to complete the degree, you may graduate one year earlier once your application is approved. Students who can’t graduate in time for legitimate reasons must hand in written application and the extension or suspension time should be no more than one year.
4. Curriculums

* Chinese course provides opportunities for students to learn better about China economy, society, philosophy, history, culture and so on. This course is organized uniformly cross different schools, counted as one credit at most, excess credits are ignored.
5. Tuitions
Tuitions are based on credits. It costs 2,500 Yuan RMB each credit, so the total tuition fee to complete the program is 80,000 Yuan RMB. Tuitions must be paid before the semester starts. There is no tuition waiver for earlier graduation. If you haven’t finished the thesis during the extension time, you should pay 15,000 Yuan RMB every semester. If you haven’t completed the courses, you should pay the extra fee for the extension according to the tuition standard.
6. Thesis
Master thesis should be written in English, with Times New Roman, 12 point font, 1.5 space, and 40 to 60 pages in total. Abstracts in both Chinese and English of about 1,000 words each should be included. You must take and pass the oral defense.
7. Degree
This degree program is set under the first class discipline of Theoretical Economics. Students who have completed the required credits within 2 years, passed all courses, finished thesis and passed the oral defense, are conferred Master’s Degree in Economics of Beijing Normal University, after being vetted and approved by the BNU Academic Degree Evaluation Committee.
