Learning from failure and error learning
This study discusses two research proposals associated with learning from failure and error learning. The first proposal focuses on the curvilinear effect of emotion on learning from failure and its potential moderators; the second proposal investigates the impact of error avoidance and error management culture on routine, noncreative work, radical creativity, and incremental creativity at the team level. Specifically, I will use the two proposals to demonstrate how understandings of statistical models are incorporated into the earlier stage of the research process.
 
Moderation, mediation, moderation mediation, and a simple tool
I will focus on moderation, mediation, and moderated mediation in this seminar. Specifically, I discuss how the statistical understanding affects research design and theory building before the empirical analysis is conducted. The seminar is divided roughly into four parts:
1. Estimating, testing, probing, and visualizing interactions in linear models.
2. Integrating moderation and mediation by discussing how to estimate conditional indirect effects, determine whether an indirect effect is moderated (moderated mediation) and whether moderated effects are mediated (mediated moderation).
3. Introducing a simple tool (an SPSS macro) to examine the effects.
4. Discussing how an understanding of such effects affects research design.
