Abstract: This paper links firms' endogenous quality choice to worker effort and efficiency wages. The model generates two distinct features: effort is rewarded and quality is rewarded. Then firms with higher monitoring accuracy pay higher wages. When trade is opened, while bad jobs with low wages and low rents are destroyed, good jobs are created. Nevertheless, unemployment could either rise or fall, depending on the structure of monitoring cost and on the share of exporting firms. These results contrast sharply with the literature, and are consistent with empirical evidence.
主讲人简介：王永进，经济学博士，现任教于南开大学经济学院国际经济与贸易系。近年来，在《经济研究》、《管理世界》、《世界经济》、《经济学季刊》、《金融研究》等重要期刊发表论文20余篇，主持国家自然科学基金项目等多项课题。
