Seeing is Believing: The Impact of Interest Rate Policy Announcement on Asset Bubbles in Experimental Markets

【摘要】
Previous literature in experimental finance finds little support for the effectiveness of interest rate policy in stabilizing asset price bubbles. We run a learning to forecast experiment with an interest rate policy that is announced in a salient way, and strongly responsive to asset price deviations. Our result shows that the average price deviation is significantly lower in the treatment with the interest rate policy than in the baseline treatment. Our result suggests that the interest rate policy will only be effective if it is announced openly, and responsive enough to asset price deviations.

【主讲人简介】
Te Bao is an assistant professor of economics at the Division of Economics, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He obtained his Ph.D in Economics in 2012 from CeNDEF, University of Amsterdam. His research interest includes experimental economics, bounded rationality, behavioral finance and real estate economics. His works are published in journals like Economic Journal, European Economic Review, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, and Real Estate Economics.
