Organised by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), University of Oxford, in collaboration with the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) and Beijing Normal University (BNU), the 2016 Summer School will be hosted at Beijing Normal University in Beijing, China, 1-13 August 2016.

Background of OPHI

The Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) is an economic research centre within the Oxford Department of International Development at the University of Oxford. Established in 2007, the centre is led by Sabina Alkire.

 

OPHI aims to build and advance a more systematic methodological and economic framework for reducing multidimensional poverty, grounded in people’s experiences and values.

University of Oxford

Oxford is a collegiate university, consisting of the central University and colleges. The central University is composed of academic departments and research centres, administrative departments, libraries and museums. The 38 colleges are self-governing and financially independent institutions, which are related to the central University in a federal system. There are also six permanent private halls, which were founded by different Christian denominations and which still retain their Christian character.

 

International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC)

The International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), based in Beijing, was jointly initiated and established by the Chinese government, the United NationsDevelopment Programme (UNDP) and other international organizations in May 2005.

 

The IPRCC is designed to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, information exchange and international collaboration in the areas of poverty reduction and development. Specifically, the Centre’ work is mainly focused on four key areas: research, exchange, training and cooperation. Through these areas, the Centre’s overall goal is to enhance poverty reduction process and contribute to world wide poverty reduction.

 

Beijing Normal University (BNU)

BNU is one of the universities with the longest history in China, whose predecessor was the Normal College of the Imperial University of Peking founded in 1902. There are three Nobel Prize Laureates on mainland China in total, two of which are alumni of BNU. As per the 2015/16 World University Rankings released by QS, BNU is ranked 8 among universities in mainland China.

 

BNU Business School (BNUBS)

BNUBS has formed its mission as “To be a leading business school with deep humanism and global reach”. It is one of the Chinese business schools with the highest percentage of international students, most sophisticated international program, and largest number of courses fully in English.

 

We offer a 2-week program for young students from all over the world who are interested in learning more about Business in China and other Emerging Countries.

August7th:Investigation

August8th:Dayoff

August9th to August12th:Lectures 9am-11:30am and2:30pm-5:00pm

August13th:Graduation ceremony 3pm-4:30pm

 

Official Tuition fee:

$800 for all students, and for academic researchers based in developingcountries;

$1500 for professionals based in developing countries; and

$2500 for professionals based in developed countries. 

 

Tuition fee for BNU students:Free 

Additional costs covered by students

1.  Accommodation: the program offers accommodation at the university campus or the hotel nearby.

2.  Flight Ticket: costs vary depending on the country of origin.

3.  Meals: breakfast and lunch served at the university canteen.
