Economics & Politics Special Issue Conference on "Innovative Research in Finance, Accounting and Corporate Governance in Transition Towards the Digital Economy " Was Successfully Held

In order to further promote research innovation in finance, accounting and corporate governance in the transition of digital economy, select excellent research papers, build an international academic exchange platform and organize academic journal resources, the themed meeting co-sponsored by BNUBS, School of Management of Shandong University, School of Business of University of South Australia and Economics & politics, was successfully held on April 8-9, 2023. Nearly 100 experts and scholars from home and abroad attended the conference.

The opening ceremony and keynote speech were held on the morning of April 8. Professor Qi Yudong, Dean of BNUBS, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. He first welcomed all the scholars, and then, on the basis of a brief introduction of the course of running the School and the basic situation of the development of the discipline, he focused on the professional layout of the School of digital economy and management and the research and teaching progress made in the field of digital economy in recent years. And he expected the participants to fully discuss, and strive to promote theoretical progress, further crack practical problems. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Cui Xuegang, Associate Dean of BNUBS.




The keynote speakers on the morning of April 8 were Prof. T.J Wang from the University of Southern California, Prof. Xiao Zezhong from the University of Macau and Prof. Xu Lei from the University of South Australia. The keynote speech was presided over by Prof. Liu Xing, Dean of the School of Accounting of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics. Professor T.Wang's speech topic is "Information and New Technology of Chinese Companies". Based on the specific institutional background of China, taking the research of his team as an example, he elaborated the function of new technology as a research method to explore the information disclosure and corporate governance of Chinese companies, as well as the corporate information system based on new technology. He also put forward insight on the new technology to improve the company information environment research direction. Professor Xiao Zezhong from the University of Macau delivered a report titled "Artificial Intelligence Enhances Audit Ability". Starting from ChatGPT's conversation on audit procedures, audit methods and audit practices, Professor Xiao expounded the potential functions of AI in improving audit work efficiency and improving audit quality. He also pointed out that, the introduction of AI in audit also presents internal challenges such as complex financial instruments, system data security, legal audit, international audit and sustainable development audit, as well as external challenges such as audit cooperation, legal supervision and unemployment of auditors. Meanwhile, audit independence and AI moral hazard are also issues that cannot be ignored. Professor Xu Lei from the University of South Australia made a speech on the digital economy and its impact on management, pointing out that the digital economy may have an important impact on the market and time, products and policies, data knowledge specificity, etc. At the same time, the innovation of digital technology also faces the problems of policy making, data quality, data security, supervision and so on. But overall it will have a positive impact on finance, accounting and corporate governance.




In the afternoon of April 8 and the first half of the morning of April 9, a total of nine parallel sub-forums were held, where 27 papers were reported, reviewed and discussed. The sub-forum topics are "Corporate Finance", "Auditing and Earning Quality", "Supervision and Regulation", "Corporate Governance", "Corporate Social Responsibility," "Fraud and Lawsuit," "Capital Market Efficiency," "Risk Management and Governance ", "Incentive and Human Resources". The hosts of each sub-forum were Luo Ting from Tsinghua University, Zhu Jigao from the University of International Business and Economics, Sun Kunpeng and Yin Libo from Central University of Finance and Economics, and Zhang Huili, Yang Dan, Fang Fang and Hu Conghui from Beijing Normal University. The report papers are selected by the academic committee of the conference by vote on the basis of the open call for papers, and the committee members have issued detailed written review opinions on all the submitted papers. According to the preliminary review opinions, selection results, and the modification and report of the conference papers, the follow-up selection will be carried out, and the shortlist will be finally determined to enter the fast review channel of the journal.










A roundtable forum titled "My Story on International Academic Publication" was held in the second half of the morning of April 9. The forum was presided over by Professor Hao Ying from Beijing Normal University, followed by Professor He Xianjie from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (currently Vice President of Anhui University of Finance and Economics), Professor Liao Guanmin from Renmin University of China, and Professor Li Qingyuan from Wuhan University. Professor He Xianjie focused on his Research in The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Contemporary Accounting Research,Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Corporate Finance and other international journals publishing experience, and pointed out that the research should have a cross-field vision, but it should return to the accounting and financial problems, and it should also clarify the research map and road map, and understand their own research map and road map, and put forward the prospect of future research. Professor Liao Guanmin has shared his knowledge in the publication experience of journals such as Journal of Finance, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of International Business Studies, Review of Finance and expounded from the raising of research questions, the sorting of literature, the positioning of research, the formation of research and how to revise and continuously improve, especially emphasizing the importance of persistence and patience of research and submission. Professor Li Qingyuan combined his knowledge in the publication of papers in The Accounting Review, Review of Financial Studies, The publication of Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies and other journals and stressed that it was very important to find new research questions from different scenarios and emphasized the importance of data.






Finally, Professor Cui Xuegang made a summary of the meeting. Cui Xuegang pointed out that the conference has the following characteristics: First, the conference theme was clear and the topic was focused. The conference focused on the Chinese context and Chinese issues with the theme of innovative research on finance, accounting and corporate governance in the digital economy transition. Second, the conference was rich in academic resources and has effectively realized the connection with young scholars. The conference organized a high-level academic committee, all members actively invested in paper review, paper comments and paper revision, young scholars have benefited a lot. Third, the conference was academic and cutting-edge. Fourth, the conference has always upheld the principles of inclusiveness, openness, fairness and justice. Then, Professor Cui Xuegang introduced the selection procedure of the paper after the conference, as well as the review process and revision requirements, and wished everyone a smooth publication of the paper. Finally, Professor Cui Xuegang expressed his sincere thanks to all the people who have contributed to this conference.
