Recently, the paper Enterprises’Strategic Choice and Digital Platform Ecosystem Construction in the Context of Digital Economy: A Case Study Based on Co-performance Perspective co-authored by Professor Jiao Hao and his doctoral students Zhang Rui and Yang Jifeng was published in the 12th issue of Management World, 2023. By clarifying the interactive relationship between strategic choice actions of enterprises and digital platform ecosystem under the context of digital economy, this paper expands the research on the process mechanism of digital platform ecosystem construction from the dual perspectives of environmental choice logic and organizational adaptation logic, and provides management enlightenment for enterprises to realize the continuous evolution of digital platform ecosystem through systematic strategic design.

The 14th Five-Year Plan for Digital Economy Development issued by The State Council points out that "supporting qualified large enterprises to build an integrated digital platform, fully integrating their internal information systems, strengthening the data penetration of the whole process, accelerating the business collaboration of the whole value chain, forming data-driven intelligent decision-making capabilities, and improving the overall operation efficiency of enterprises and the upstream and downstream synergies of the industrial chain." It emphasizes the importance and urgency for enterprises to build digital platform ecosystem. Therefore, how to build a digital platform ecosystem through strategic choices has become an urgent problem to be solved in the context of digital economy. This study elucidates the process model of co-evolution of strategic choice and digital platform ecosystem in the context of digital economy, and shows that enterprises can dynamically implement strategic choice actions to build digital platform ecosystem. In the initial creation stage, enterprises are mainly driven by digital technology. We establish a resource patchwork strategy through the transaction module design with supply and demand matching as the core, novel digital identity shaping and transparent and open communication system, and build a digital platform ecosystem based on star products. At the scale expansion stage, enterprises are mainly driven by digital consumers, and we build a digital platform ecosystem based on combined products by integrating the system integration strategy established by guiding module design with embedding as the core, complementary digital identity shaping and boundary-clear technical institutions. In the stage of cross-border expansion, enterprises are mainly driven by digital competition. We build a digital platform ecosystem based on scenario-based products through the standard module design with cross-border integration as the core, the inclusive digital identity shaping and the ecological arrangement strategy established by the cooperation system based on value creation. On the one hand, based on the logic of environmental selection, changes in the external digital economy situation trigger the leading enterprises to implement matching strategic choice actions and build the digital platform ecosystem. On the other hand, based on organizational adaptation logic, it leads enterprises to take the initiative to implement strategic choice actions and build digital platform ecosystem at the same stage, and the construction of digital platform ecosystem in the current period is the result of strategic decision, thus affecting the inter-period strategic choice and the corresponding digital platform ecosystem construction.
