BNU Conference on Experimental Economics Was Held Successfully

From December 24 to 25, hosted by BNU Business School, BNU International Conference on Experimental Economics was successfully held in Jingshi Building. Invited by the conference, Professor Chen Yan from University of Michigan delivered a keynote speech. As the top Chinese economist, she has published articles in in American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Economic Theory, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Public Economics, Management Science, Experimental Economics and other top international journals. She also serves as the Chairman of the Economic Science Association and editor, vice editor or Editor Board Member of Games and Economic Behavior, Management Science and Experimental Economics and other journals. Nearly 50 scholars from the University of Bonn, Monash University, National University of Singapore, Tsinghua University, BNU and other universities participated in the conference.



 
The conference was presided over by Associate Professor He Haoran from BNUBS. First, Professor Lai Desheng, Dean of BNUBS, delivered a speech to welcome the scholars. Then he pointed out that behavior and experimental economics were the two of the key development areas that had been supported by BNUBS since the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period and BNUBS would vigorously support to carry out activities and hope to strengthen the academic exchanges and enhance the academic level of teachers of BNUBS by organizing more such academic activities.
 
Demonstrating her recent research, Professor Chen Yan discussed how to motivate experts in various disciplines to contribute to the editorial entry of Wikipedia, and through the design of control, she explored whether social identities were perceived and how cognitive style influenced experts’ public goods supply behavior of editing Wikipedia entry. She also analyzed the influence of non-material incentives such as recognition and citations of authors’ work and the popularity of entries on the encouragement of the supply behavior of public goods.

 
After the keynote speech, the conference was held at two parallel venues simultaneously, in which, twenty-five scholars from BNU, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and other universities at home and abroad displayed their papers. The content of papers presented in the conference included the study of fair quota issue in the enrollment in colleges and universities, the study of discrimination on one child, the study of impact of time constraint on the working performance in the multitask background, and the research of deception behavior in different language and culture backgrounds. In the special section of the paper evaluation arranged by the conference, the participants carried out in-depth exchanges of the displayed papers in a lively atmosphere.
