Prof. Wang Shanmai Was Elected as “Well-known Contemporary Educator”

Recently, in the 1st session of the selection of “Well-known Contemporary Educator” jointly held by 6 institutes, including China Education Society, China Institute of Higher Education, CSTVE, China Educational Television, China Education News Agency, People’s Education Press, Prof. Wang Shanmai was elected as the “Well-known Contemporary Educator”.

Altogether 90 well-known contemporary educators were elected under scrutinized procedures. The organizing committee holds highly positive views towards the contribution of the 90 contemporary educators. Since the reform and opening-up, these educators have cultivated generations of talented people and made outstanding contributions to the development of education, the rejuvenation of the nation and the prosperity of the country. They continued to reform, strive to establish education that is satisfactory to the people, and constantly improve the education system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which has yielded fruitful results.

Prof. Wang shanmai, born in 1937, is the Prof. of BNUBS, tutor of doctoral students, Dean of Education Economic Research Institute of BNU. In 1958, he graduated from the Department of Education of BNU, and he worked as a teacher after that. In 1962, he graduated from Renmin University of China, and was invited to give lectures and conduct academic exchange activities in Chinese University Hong Kong, University of Hong Kong, Columbia University, University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, and other universities. He has been engaged in teaching Economics and in Educational Economics research for a long time, providing decision-making and management consultancy services to relevant institutions of central and local governments. He is one of the famous educational economists and founders of educational economics in China. As a major member in the formulation of the national education reform and development plan, national education development plan and other major national education policies and development plans, he has made important contributions to the construction of China’s educational financial system. He is also a member of the School Affairs Committee of BNU, whose part-time jobs mainly include: Honorary Chairman of China Institute of Education Economics, Expert of National Education Steering Group, Expert Consultant of Beijing municipal government, etc. He once won numerous awards and prizes, published over 100 papers on journals home and abroad, more than 10 textbooks and took charge of over 20 research topics on national, provincial and ministerial levels and international organizations.
