In the afternoon of 9th November 2017, the 61th Jingshi Business Celebrity Forum was successful held. The forum was presided by Prof. Li Shi from BNUBS. Prof. David Neumark from University of California, Irvine (UCI) was invited to delivered a speech on “The Long-Run Effects of the EITC on Women's Earnings”.

Prof. David Neumark is the professor in economics and the director of ESSPRI of UCI. He is also the visiting scholar of Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. He has a lot of contributions in labour economics, and has been the consultant of a number of discrimination lawsuits.

First of all, Prof. Neumark introduced the background of labor income tax policy in the United States. Secondly, he presented the literature review that he did on other scholars’ achievements. Finally, he applied the results he got from his investigation into analysing the long-term influence of American income tax policy on women’s income. The conclusion is that women who are unmarried or haven’t given birth to children can enjoy more income and working hours, and even long-term wages. However, married women will have to suffer lower income and hours of work in the long run.

After the speech, teachers and students actively expressed their views and asked questions. Prof. Neumark answered them in detail. The lecture ended in a warm round of applause.
